So, you're wondering what holiday is on October 18th? Well, let me tell you, it's not just another day, my friend! On October 18th, we celebrate Alaska Day, a holiday that's all about the largest state in the United States.
But, what's the big deal about Alaska, you ask? It's a state that's so big, you could fit Texas, California, and Montana inside it and still have room for a few more states to squeeze in! That's like having a house with an endless number of rooms, and each room is filled with stunning natural beauty, from glaciers to mountains to wildlife.
Now, you might be thinking, "Okay, that's cool and all, but what about the holiday itself?" Well, Alaska Day is actually a commemoration of the day when Alaska was transferred from Russia to the United States, way back in 1867. It's like a birthday party for the state, and who doesn't love a good birthday party?!

A little history lesson
So, let's get into the historical details of this holiday. Apparently, Russia was having some financial troubles and decided to sell Alaska to the United States for a whopping $7.2 million, which is like, a steal of a deal, if you ask me! That's roughly $125 million in today's dollars, which is still a pretty good price for a state that's larger than most countries!
Now, at the time, people thought the United States was crazy for buying this huge piece of land, and they even called it "Seward's Folly" after the guy who negotiated the deal, Secretary of State William Seward. But, as it turned out, Alaska was packed with natural resources, including gold, oil, and timber, making it a pretty smart investment after all.
